Isoquinoline-5-carboxamide is a heterocyclic compound that contains a nitrogen atom, nitro group, and trifluoromethyl group. The compound has two isomers: 1-methylisoquinoline-5-carboxamide and 2-methylisoquinoline-5-carboxamide. Both compounds are expressed in the human brain and have been shown to bind to kinases. Isoquinoline-5-carboxamide may be used to treat depression and Alzheimer's disease due to its ability to inhibit protein kinase C (PKC) and protein kinase A (PKA). This drug also has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties and may be used for the treatment of sclerosis.
