The compound has two isomers: 1-methylisoquinoline-5-carboxamide and 2-methylisoquinoline-5-carboxamide. Both compounds are expressed in the human brain and have been shown to bind to kinases. Isoquinoline-5-carboxamide may be used to treat depression and Alzheimer's disease due to its ability to inhibit protein kinase C (PKC) and protein kinase A (PKA).
