Lepirudina

Lepirudina é um anticoagulante sintético derivado da saliva da sanguessuga medicinal, Hirudo medicinalis. Funciona como um inibidor direto da trombina, o que significa que se liga à trombina e impede que ela converta o fibrinogênio em fibrina, inibindo assim a formação de coágulos sanguíneos. Lepirudina é utilizado principalmente em ambientes clínicos para o tratamento de pacientes com trombocitopenia induzida por heparina (HIT), uma condição em que a terapia com heparina leva a uma diminuição na contagem de plaquetas e a um aumento do risco de trombose. A substância é caracterizada por sua alta especificidade para a trombina, tornando-a eficaz no manejo de distúrbios trombóticos.
