7-Bromo-3,4-dihydro-1H-2-benzopyran-1-one is a functionalized heterocycle with a bromine substituent. The methyl group attached to the heterocyclic ring is acidic. 7-Bromo-3,4-dihydro-1H-2-benzopyran-1-one is used in organic synthesis as an acetalization catalyst and in the olefination of lactones to produce phloroglucinol. This compound has been shown to be catalytic for the conversion of acetaldehyde into acetic acid and benzaldehyde into benzoic acid.
