It has also been shown to be an effective anti-inflammatory agent and may have clinical relevance in the treatment of congestive heart disease. The mechanism of action is unknown, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandin E2 and thromboxane A2 by inhibiting cyclooxygenase. Trans-1,2-cyclohexanediol has also been shown to be metabolized into glucuronide conjugates, which are excreted through the kidneys.
