CAS:(E)-Phytol is an active compound that is found in plants. It inhibits the activity of enzymes such as the polymerase chain, ATP-dependent transport, and photosynthetic activity. In vitro assays have shown that (E)-Phytol can inhibit the transcriptional activity of prokaryotic RNA polymerase, which may be related to its anti-inflammatory properties. There are also indications that (E)-Phytol has insecticidal properties and may be effective against cancer cells. The exact natural function of (E)-Phytol is not known but it has been shown to inhibit hepatic steatosis by preventing mitochondrial membrane potential from decreasing.
