It is a synthetic compound that is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes and excreted in urine. (2S,2R,Trans)-saxagliptin has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of glucose in liver cells and to lower blood glucose levels in diabetic animals. In addition, it has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the production of TNF-α and IL-6 cytokines.
