CAS:Di-O-benzoyl D-tartaric acid is an inorganic acid that is used as an acid catalyst in organic synthesis. It is synthesized by the reaction of benzoyl chloride and calcium carbonate, which produces a mixture of di-O-benzoyl D-tartaric acid and its enantiomer. Di-O-benzoyl D-tartaric acid has a high solubility in water and is stable to hydrochloric acid and mercury chloride. This compound also interacts with hydrogen bonding interactions with l-tartaric acid and hydrogen bonding interactions with calcium carbonate. Di-O-benzoyl D-tartaric acid is not toxic to human cells at concentrations up to 100 mM.
