ZK756326 binds to and blocks the activity of Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2), which is a protein that activates the immune system. This drug also has pharmacokinetic properties that are similar to those of an HIV non-nucleoside inhibitor. ZK756326 is currently being studied for its potential use in treating human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection.
