5,6,7,8-Tetrahydroquinoline-2-carboxamide is a retinoic acid metabolite that has been shown to be an immune modulator. It has retinoic acid activity which is used in the treatment of psoriasis and chronic skin diseases such as vitiligo. The carboxylic acid derivative of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinoline-2-carboxamide has been shown to inhibit the production of TNFα and IL1β in monocytes/macrophages in vitro. The synthesis of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinoline-2-carboxamide involves coupling with a chiral alcohol to form the corresponding chiral amide. This reaction mixture can then be hydrogenated to produce the desired enantiomer.
