4’,5’-Didehydro-2’-O-(2-methoxyethyl)uridine (4,5DDMU) is a novel nucleoside analog that is phosphorylated to 4,5-didehydro-2'-O-(2-methoxyethyl)uridine 5'-triphosphate. This nucleoside has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of human cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. 4,5DDMU inhibits viral replication by generating diphosphate derivatives of the viral DNA polymerase enzyme that are unable to synthesize DNA. 4,5DDMU also inhibits HIV replication by inhibiting reverse transcriptase activity in the virus.End>
