(S,R,S)-AHPC-C4-NH2 is a peptide that was originally identified as an activator of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. It has been shown to activate the NMDA receptor in rat brain and spinal cord membranes and also inhibit the binding of glycine to the glycine site on the NMDA receptor. The peptide has also been found to inhibit protein interactions between alpha1-adrenergic receptors and beta2-adrenergic receptors. (S,R,S)-AHPC-C4-NH2 is a potent inhibitor of ligand binding to the recombinant human erythropoietin receptor (EPOR). This inhibition is competitive with respect to both the ligand and heme groups of EPOR. The IC50 for (S,R,S)-AHPC-C4-NH2 was determined at 0.3 μM.
