3±-Aminocholestane is a small molecule that has been shown to have antitumor activity against human liver cancer. 3±-Aminocholestane binds to the insulin receptor, leading to activation of the downstream signaling pathway and subsequent activation of tumor suppressor genes. This compound also induces apoptosis in human liver cells by disrupting mitochondrial membrane integrity. 3±-Aminocholestane inhibits growth of avian influenza virus in vitro and in vivo and is used as a gas sensor for detecting hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and formaldehyde.
