1-O-(3-Hydroxykynurenine)-b-D-glucopyranoside is a non-diabetic, water soluble natural product that has been shown to be an efficient method for the detection of peroxide in cell culture supernatants. It is a novel fluorescent probe that can be used to detect β-glucosidase activity by measuring the release of hydrogen peroxide. It also interacts with β-glucosidase and yields a reaction product that can be detected by liquid chromatography. The interaction between 1-O-(3-hydroxykynurenine)-b-D-glucopyranoside and β-glucosidase results in the release of hydrogen peroxide, which can be detected by a spectrophotometer. This compound can also act as an antioxidant, protecting cells from oxidative damage.
