10-Camphorsulfonic acid is a hydrogen-bonding acid that can be used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. It has been shown to have an optimal reaction with fatty acids, which are recycled and converted into biodiesel. 10-Camphorsulfonic acid can also be used to produce trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, which is used as a solvent in the production of polymers. This compound is generally found in an enantiomeric form, meaning that it has two versions: the R and S enantiomers. The R enantiomer is known for its serotonin reuptake inhibitor properties, while the S enantiomer does not have any pharmacological activity. 10-Camphorsulfonic acid has been shown to react with l-tartaric acid to form sodium hydrogen sulfate and lactic acid.
