5-bromo-6-methoxyquinoline is a synthetic, polyfunctional quinoline derivative that selectively reacts with ethers to form bromides or with alcohols and amines to form the corresponding nitroquinolines. This compound can be used for the regioselective synthesis of 6-nitroquinolines and 5-nitroquinolines. The 8-nitroquinoline is obtained by dibromination of 5-bromo-6-methoxyquinoline, followed by bromination of the resulting dibromide.
