1,3,2-Benzodioxathiole, 2,2-dioxide is a hydroxy group and an aliphatic hydrocarbon. It is used as a surfactant in detergent compositions. The compound has been shown to be a potent control agent for inflammatory diseases such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. It also has the ability to inhibit active enzymes such as cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase. 1,3,2-Benzodioxathiole, 2,2-dioxide has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties that may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of inflammatory mediators such as gamma-aminobutyric acid or prostaglandins.
1,3,2-Benzodioxathiole, 2,2-dioxide is also used as a light stabilizer in polymers exposed to light.
