Propoxifeno é um analgésico opioide sintético que foi utilizado principalmente para o alívio da dor leve a moderada. É classificado como um membro da classe de compostos diphenylpropylamine. It is a prodrug which undergoes first-pass metabolism, and has an inhibitory effect on neural growth factors. Dextropropoxyphene also has some hallucinogenic effects and may be used as a recreational drug. Dextropropoxyphene can be detected in urine samples by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The clinical relevance of dextropropoxyphene is not fully understood, but it has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on inflammation and trigeminal neuralgia.
