This compound is a volatile that has been shown to have an insecticidal effect on lepidoptera larvae. The active form of (9Z,11E)-9,11-tetradecadienol acetate is reversibly cleaved by peroxides and other oxidizing agents. It has been shown in bioassays that this compound can be used as a repellent against major pest species of lepidoptera such as Pyralidae and Saturniidae.
