Abietic acid is a natural compound that is used in wastewater treatment. It is a p-glycoprotein inhibitor, which prevents the efflux of organic compounds from cells. Abietic acid is also an antimicrobial agent and has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth through its antimicrobial peptide activity.
