2-(1H-Indol-2-yl)ethanol is a homologous compound that belongs to the group of cinnamic compounds. It is used in the industrial preparation of 2,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid and 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, which are used as chiral auxiliaries in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals. 2-(1H-Indol-2-yl)ethanol has been shown to inhibit rhizobiaceae and other soil bacteria. 2-(1H-indol-2-yl)ethanol also inhibits aging through its ability to induce apoptosis in human fibroblast cells.
