Dimenidrinato é um antihistamínico comumente usado para prevenir e tratar náuseas, vômitos e tontura causados por enjoo de movimento. É uma combinação de difenidramina, um antihistamínico, e 8-cloroteofilina, um estimulante que contrarresta os efeitos sedativos da difenidramina. A substância aparece como um pó cristalino branco a off-white e é solúvel em água, tornando-a adequada para várias formulações, incluindo comprimidos e soluções orais. Dimenidrinato atua bloqueando a ação da histamina nos receptores H1 e possui propriedades anticolinérgicas, que contribuem para sua eficácia em aliviar os sintomas associados ao enjoo de movimento. Seu início de ação geralmente ocorre dentro de 30 minutos a uma hora, com efeitos que duram várias horas. Embora geralmente seja bem tolerado, os efeitos colaterais potenciais podem incluir sonolência, boca seca e tontura. Cuidado é aconselhado ao usar Dimenidrinato em conjunto com outros depressivos do sistema nervoso central ou em indivíduos com certas condições médicas, como glaucoma ou aumento da próstata.
