CAS:2-Amino-1,3-propanediol is a glycerol byproduct that is a metabolite of the serine biosynthesis pathway. It is converted to glycine by the enzyme serinol synthase and can be used as a fluorescence probe for laser ablation analysis. 2-Amino-1,3-propanediol reacts with an alcohol in the presence of an acid or base to form an ester hydrochloride. This reaction mechanism has been demonstrated on wild-type strains of Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis. 2-Amino-1,3-propanediol can also be used as a substrate for bacterial growth, which may lead to bowel disease or autoimmune diseases in humans.
