4-Amino-1-[(2R,3R,4R,5R)-3-ethoxy-4-hydroxy-5-(hydroxymethyl)oxolan-2-yl]pyrimidin-2-one is a novel compound that is an anticancer agent and antiviral. It inhibits the proliferation of cells by modifying the nucleotide structure of DNA. The 4'-amino group makes it a nucleoside analogue that can be modified to inhibit bacterial replication and virus production. 4'-Amino-1-[(2R,3R,4R,5R)-3-ethoxy-4-hydroxy-5-(hydroxymethyl)oxolan-2-yl]pyrimidin-- 2 one may also cause cell death by inhibiting DNA synthesis and RNA synthesis.
