7H,8H-Imidazo[1,5-a]pyrazin-8-one is a potent and selective inhibitor of the bromodomain family. Bromodomains are protein domains found in many proteins that have been implicated in regulating gene expression, DNA repair, and protein degradation. Inhibiting this domain leads to decreased proliferation of tumor cells. 7H,8H-Imidazo[1,5-a]pyrazin-8-one has also shown potential as an anti-neurodegenerative agent by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. This compound is active against cancerous cell lines and is crystalline with a polymorphic form that can be used for medicine production.
