CAS:3,3'-Dinitrobiphenyl-4,4'-diamine (DNBP) is an antibacterial agent that belongs to the class of dioximes. It inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the chloride ion and preventing its normal function. DNBP is used for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by bacteria resistant to other antibiotics. The dilution method has been used to measure the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of DNBP in vitro on human pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. DNBP has also shown antibacterial activity against a number of other human pathogens including Shigella dysenteriae, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The molecule is not active against gram-positive bacteria such as Enterococcus faecalis or Streptococcus pyogenes.
