Cimetidine is a histamine-2 receptor antagonist that is used to treat peptic ulcers and gastric acid hypersecretion. It has been shown to reduce the growth of tumor cells in culture and to inhibit the synthesis of interferon alfa-2b, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products, and carbenoxolone sodium.
