Lítio, com o número CAS 7439-93-2, é um metal alcalino macio e de cor branco-prateado que pertence ao grupo 1 da tabela periódica. É o metal mais leve e tem uma baixa densidade, tornando-o altamente flutuante na água. Lítio é altamente reativo, particularmente com água, onde reage para formar hidróxido de Lítio e gás hidrogênio, muitas vezes produzindo calor e às vezes incendiando o hidrogênio. Tem um ponto de fusão de cerca de 180,5 °C e um ponto de ebulição de aproximadamente 1342 °C. Lítio é conhecido por suas propriedades eletroquímicas, que o tornam essencial em baterias recarregáveis de íons de Lítio, amplamente utilizadas em eletrônicos portáteis e veículos elétricos.
