CAS:Produto ControladoThulium is a chemical element with symbol Tm and atomic number 69. It is a rare earth metal that has been shown to have potential as an HIV modulator. Thulium is used in the treatment of some cancers, such as bladder cancer. In this capacity, thulium acts by selectively absorbing laser radiation and converting it into heat energy, which destroys the tumors. The clinical study results on thulium's effect in cancer patients were inconclusive due to the small number of patients studied.
Thulium is also used as a radioactive isotope for nuclear medicine imaging. The use of this isotope poses little risk to human health because it emits very low levels of radiation. This type of radiation is also not harmful to any living cells because it cannot penetrate through skin or other tissues.
