Descrição:
Cério é um metal dúctil de cor prateada que pertence à série dos lantânidos da tabela periódica, com o número atômico 58 e o número CAS 7440-45-1. É conhecido por seu ponto de fusão relativamente alto e é um dos elementos de terras raras mais abundantes. Cério exibe uma variedade de estados de oxidação, sendo os mais comuns +3 e +4, que contribuem para seu comportamento químico diversificado. Oxida-se facilmente no ar, formando uma camada de óxido protetora, e pode reagir com água a temperaturas elevadas.
