4-Benzyl-1-(thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-yl)piperidine is a piperidine derivative that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It has been shown to reduce tumor size and induce regression in mouse models of brain tumors. This drug also induces apoptosis in neural cells and has been used to study the relationship between transport and death. 4-benzyl-1-(thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-yl)piperidine binds to the constitutive activation domain of the signal transducer protein, inhibiting its activity and leading to cell death. It is also an agonist for nuclear transport, which may be responsible for its effect on glioma cells.
