Zofenoprilato é o metabolito ativo do inibidor da enzima conversora de angiotensina (ECA) zofenopril, utilizado principalmente no tratamento da hipertensão e insuficiência cardíaca. Pertence à classe de medicamentos que ajudam a relaxar os vasos sanguíneos, reduzindo assim a pressão arterial e melhorando o fluxo sanguíneo. Zofenoprilato apresenta uma alta afinidade pela enzima ECA, inibindo sua atividade e prevenindo a conversão de angiotensina I em angiotensina II, um potente vasoconstritor. Zofenoprilat

Zofenoprilat is a prodrug of enalaprilat, which is an inhibitor of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). It has been shown to reduce the blood pressure in vivo and in humans. Inhibition of ACE leads to decreased levels of angiotensin II and aldosterone, which are hormones that constrict blood vessels. Zofenoprilat also inhibits the transcription-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase and preventing its activity. This drug may be used as an alternative to ACE inhibitors when they are contraindicated or ineffective. The inhibition of ACE by zofenoprilat also prevents the formation of angiotensin II, which is involved in the activation of pro-angiogenic processes.
