Meldonium, também conhecido como Mildronato, é um composto sintético utilizado principalmente como medicamento para tratar condições cardíacas isquêmicas e melhorar o desempenho físico. Foi desenvolvido na década de 1970 na Letônia e é classificado como um modulador metabólico. A fórmula química de Meldonium é C5H13N1O2, e apresenta uma estrutura única que inclui um anel de 1,2,4-triazol. Meldonium atua inibindo a enzima carnitina aciltransferase, que desempenha um papel no metabolismo de ácidos graxos, promovendo assim a utilização de glicose em vez de ácidos graxos para a produção de energia.
