CAS:Sphinganine is a major sphingoid base found in rat urine and human urine. It is a precursor of sphingosine, which is an important intermediate in the biosynthesis of sphingolipids. Sphinganine has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting nuclear DNA fragmentation and the activation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) induced by proinflammatory cytokines. The anticancer effect of sphinganine may be due to its ability to inhibit the proliferation of cells that are resistant to apoptosis such as MDA-MB-468 cells. Sphinganine has also been shown to have significant cytotoxic effects on squamous cell carcinoma cells and inhibit the growth of pathogenic fungi such as Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans, and Aspergillus fumigatus.
