It reacts with hydrogen fluoride to form a copper complex, which is a strong nucleophile. Pentafluoroaniline forms intramolecular hydrogen bonds between its nitrogen atoms and nonpolar solvent molecules. It binds to cholesterol esterase and inhibits the enzyme's function, thereby inhibiting the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Pentafluoroaniline also has an inhibitory effect on proliferation by binding to amines in cells, preventing their activation by phospholipase A2 enzymes.
