O ácido permangânico (HMnO4), sal de potássio, comumente conhecido como permanganato de potássio, é um composto inorgânico com a fórmula KMnO4. Aparece como cristais roxos escuros ou quase pretos que são solúveis em água, produzindo uma solução roxa profunda. Este composto é caracterizado por suas fortes propriedades oxidantes, tornando-o útil em várias aplicações, incluindo tratamento de água, desinfecção e como reagente na síntese orgânica. O permanganato de potássio também é empregado na medicina para tratar certas condições de pele devido às suas propriedades antissépticas. Em termos de estabilidade, é relativamente estável em condições normais, mas pode se decompor quando exposto ao calor ou na presença de agentes redutores.
