CAS:Produto ControladoMercury(II) bromide is a chemical compound that is used as an antimicrobial agent in wastewater treatment. It reacts with organic matter to produce compounds that are less soluble and thus easier to remove from water. Mercury(II) bromide also has the ability to react with chlorine gas, forming mercury chloride and hydrogen bromide gas. These reactions can be used for analytical chemistry, such as photomultiplier tube measurements or elemental analysis using X-ray diffraction. Mercury(II) bromide can also be used as a solid catalyst for cationic polymerization of picolinic acid.
