Copolímero de ácido 3-hidroxibutírico-ácido 3-hidroxivalérico, comumente referido como PHBV, é um polímero biodegradável derivado da fermentação de recursos renováveis. Este copolímero é composto por duas unidades monoméricas: ácido 3-hidroxibutírico (3HB) e ácido 3-hidroxivalérico (3HV). O PHBV exibe uma variedade de características que o tornam adequado para várias aplicações, particularmente nos campos de embalagens, dispositivos biomédicos e filmes agrícolas. É conhecido por suas boas propriedades mecânicas, flexibilidade e estabilidade térmica, que podem ser ajustadas alterando a proporção dos dois monômeros. The polymer has shown synergistic effects when used in combination with other polymers, such as polyvinyl alcohol.
