It also has been shown that this compound can be used as an acaricide, insecticide, and nematocide. The chloride group found on ethyl 2-toluate reacts with hydrogen molecules to form a hydrogen bond, which provides kinetic energy. This kinetic energy is transferred to the hexane molecule, causing it to break apart into its constituent carbonyl groups and alkylthio groups. These electrons are then transferred onto sulfonic acids such as benzoate, resulting in their decomposition.
