CAS:2-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)-3-methyl-1H-indol-5-ol is a natural estrogen found in plants. It can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of estradiol and bazedoxifene acetate. The compound has been shown to inhibit the production of estrogens by human liver cells, which may be due to its ability to bind with estrogen receptors and prevent them from binding with their natural ligand, estradiol. 2-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)-3-methyl-1H-indol-5-ol also inhibits the uptake of estradiol in MCF7 breast cancer cells, which may be due to its antiestrogenic activity. 2-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)-3-methyl-1H-indol-5-ol is not active against bazedoxifene or other antiestrogens.
