N,N-Dimethyl-5-oxopyrrolidine-3-carboxamide (DMCM) is a nonsedating antihistamine that inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells. It is used to treat allergic reactions and symptoms such as hives, itching, and watery eyes. DMCM also has been used in the treatment of cancer, bacterial vaginosis, and other inflammatory conditions. DMCM is not recommended for use in children under two years of age. DMCM may cause drowsiness or excitability in some people. DMCM should not be taken by individuals with heart disease or high blood pressure and should not be combined with pseudoephedrine or other decongestants.
