CAS:Methyl 3-toluate is the intermediate in a reaction where a benzyl ester is methylated by methanol and sulfuric acid. The reaction rate for the conversion of benzyl esters to methyl 3-toluate is dependent on the concentration of acceptor, which can be controlled by changing the solute concentration in the solution. Methyl 3-toluate has been shown to be an efficacious metabolic product from benzyl esters. This compound has also been shown to have a thermodynamic efficiency of greater than 99%. Methyl 3-toluate has not been shown to have any toxic effects, but it does exhibit quaternary ammonium salt properties.
