The acute oral LD50 for rats is 690 mg/kg body weight. 2-Naphthol binds to cell receptors that are involved in a variety of physiological processes including heme transport, phagocytosis, oxidative burst, chemotaxis, and respiratory burst. This binding inhibits these functions leading to cell death.
