Erbium foil is commonly used as a photographic filter, and because of its resilience it is useful as a metallurgical additive. It is used as an alloying element with titanium and is also used to produce infra-red absorbing glass. Used in nuclear technology for control rods; an alloy in vanadium to lower hardness, lasers and erbium doped fiber amplifiers, a colorant in glass and porcelain. This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand.
