Acetylspiramycin is a drug that belongs to the class of antibiotics called spiramycins. It is used in the treatment of bacterial infections. Acetylspiramycin inhibits protein synthesis by preventing the formation of peptide bonds between amino acids, which are essential for protein synthesis. Acetylspiramycin also has an effect on chemiluminescence and can be used as a marker for chemical stability in wastewater treatment. Acetylspiramycin binds to rat liver microsomes and lymphocytes, and can inhibit HIV infection in vitro. This drug is effective against infectious diseases such as syphilis, gonorrhea, anthrax, tularemia, and urinary tract infections.
