- Thiophene 2-Sulfonic Acid
Thiophene-2-sulfonic acid is an organic compound with the formula HOS(CH)S. It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water, methanol, and dimethyl sulfoxide. Thiophene-2-sulfonic acid can be used in analytical chemistry to determine the concentration of thifensulfuron in soil or water samples. This analysis can be done by voltammetry and the reaction time, as well as the concentration of sulfate ions in solution, are determined. Thiophene-2-sulfonic acid also has been shown to inhibit the growth of transgenic crops that are resistant to sulfonylurea herbicides. Thiophene-2-sulfonic acid reacts with polyesters to form heterocycles, which may be useful for producing polyester resins with improved properties.
