Descrição:Benzanthrone is an analytical reagent and a derivative of 2-benzoylbenzoic acid. It is used as a reagent in the preparation of organic compounds for analysis by spectrophotometry, thin-layer chromatography, and high-performance liquid chromatography. Benzanthrone has been shown to be genotoxic to bacteria, yeast, and mammalian cells. The photophysical properties of benzanthrone have been studied extensively because it is a model system for studying intermolecular hydrogen bonding and water vapor absorption in organic molecules. Benzanthrone has also been shown to have fatty acid esterase activity.
