2-(N-Ethylanilino)ethanol (2EAE) is a reactive functional group that is used in the synthesis of polymeric materials. It can be used to encapsulate other molecules, such as hydrogen and chlorine gas, in order to protect them from environmental conditions. 2EAE has methoxy groups that are capable of forming hydrogen bonds with other molecules, which makes it an efficient method for synthesizing polymers. 2EAE reacts with nitrous acid to form azobenzene, an acceptor molecule that is used in organic reactions. The nitro and hydroxyl groups on 2EAE allow it to react easily with nitric acid, making it an effective reagent for synthesizing nitro compounds.
