2,3-Dichloro-1,4-dioxane is a glycol that is used as a solvent and an intermediate in the production of other chemicals. It has two conformers, cis and trans, which can be differentiated by infrared spectra. The cis conformer predominates in the liquid state at standard temperature and pressure. 2,3-Dichloro-1,4-dioxane has been shown to react with copper to form a sequence of adducts. These adducts are found in the spectra of amines such as thiourea. This reaction may provide a means for identifying 2,3-Dichloro-1,4-dioxane in the environment.
2,3-Dichloro-1,4-dioxane also reacts with glyoxal to give an unsaturated product that correlates well with glyoxal in infrared spectra.
