Scopolamine is an active substance that belongs to the group of anticholinergic drugs. It is used in the treatment of gastrointestinal and urinary tract spasms, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease. Scopolamine N-oxide-d3 is a metabolite of scopolamine that is produced by oxidative metabolism by cytochrome P450 enzymes. This substance has been shown in animal models to have anticholinergic effects and inhibit cholinesterase activity. Scopolamine N-oxide-d3 also has been shown to have strong anti-inflammatory effects in vitro, which may be due to its ability to generate oxygen radicals.
