It reacts with hydrogen fluoride (HF) in the presence of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to form sodium butyrate, which is used in the manufacture of polyester polymers. Butyl butyrate also participates in the process optimization of polymerase chain reactions by enhancing the efficiency of DNA amplification.
